What if we set up a custom UPC for each rental unit. Would we be able to track the yield on a per unit basis. We only want to track profitability. We use a paper trail to track in and out.

We're new to Merchant OS, but we're totally on board. We're also looking to convert to a totally Mac-based store. Add to that, we are a now exploring the opportunities that swap meets and local races/events offer us when it comes to sales. I was at our local Apple store recently and they are running the Lightspeed POS software and showed me their iPad and iPhone credit swiper integration. The technology exists so I think it would greatly improve the opportunities for Merchant OS customers if there were some iPad and iPhone integrations offered.

It's a great service, and nothing makes your store look more professional than a solid plastic card with your logo on it, sitting by your register. It's the small things like that, which can set your store apart from your competitors.

There are no processing fees or any sort of extra fees at all with our gift card module. The only thing you'll need to pay for is the actual gift cards themselves: getting the module on your account is free and it is free to use permanently.

Comment on We Are Now Integrated With Perkville! by Michael

We've been using Perkville for about 2 months now. Our customers love it, and we definitely see the value of a program like this. We were also surprised by the change to fee-based. But we now have over 1200 active customers using the program, and will likely see more growth this year.

They are very responsive to my questions, and with added revenue, I hope for great features.

One feature that would improve this integration is if MerchantOS can pull data back from Perkville, so we can see points balances/print points balances on receipts; and be able to redeem points during checkout.

As it stands, it works. But it's clunky in that we can't provide our customers with balance updates simply. It also puts the more onus on customers than is preferred.

While I love the new look you are showing here please keep in mind your target audience. Retail sales clerks. The people who work in this position are often not very technically literate and changing the way things look on them without giving managers time to train them can have a very detrimental impact on a business. Adding more features to the administration area however would be welcomed change, I know that we are still waiting on improvements to the inventory control system. It's quite the process handling the quantity of inventory we have put through the system.

I'm also sure glad to also hear that the email feature is not going to be mandatory, many of the clerks we have put into the system for our customer are not able to access company email. It wouldn't be economical to provide them with such, nor would it make sense from a security standpoint to monitor that many users email activity.

In any case I'm excited to see where you get this year. The software is very cool and works real well. Maybe offline cacheing is still on the table? Especially since you admit that connectivity is a big problem for a number of customers.

The biggest difference is being able to track your Gift Card sales more easily in your Reports. If you use a deposit in lieu of a gift card, the customer will still be able to use that balance later on, but you won't be able to distinguish that sale from any other deposit (like someone finishing off a layaway) as easily as if it were a Gift Card; using actual Gift Cards will show up in your Reports as a separate Payment Type.
