MerchantOS Launch

by Justin Laing on June 19th, 2006.

Welcome to our new website and our new name, MerchantOS. We hope that you like both. The name Bikesoft just didn’t make sense for us going forward. We’ve talked to retailers outside of the bicycle industry that would love to use our system but assume that we are just for bike shops when really we have grown into a service that fits the needs of many small retailers. We contemplated keeping both names but decided against it. We realized that we need a unified image and name. A name that a bike shop owner can tell his or her friend that owns a running shop.

Along with our new name you’ll notice that our website has been given a major face-lift. We hope that you’ll find it more useful. On this blog we’ll be posting about new features and general topics. Please leave comments to let us know what you think. The web site also includes a support forum where we can all discuss issues pertaining to MerchantOS and general business topics. If you have a support question and you don’t need it answered right away the forum is a great place to ask it. By using the forum everyone will have a chance to contribute and everyone can benefit from the answer.

We have a ton of great ideas for new features to add to our service. Thank you to everyone who has let us know what they think the system needs. Our main focus is always making the system better for you, so let us know where you think it could improve.

We would really like to take advantage of the fact that all of you could be sharing information. For example we have tossed around the idea of item comments or reviews that all of our customers could share. So if you had something to say about a certain bike frame you could share those thoughts with all the bike shops that use our system.

Another feature we would like to add is allowing consumers to search your inventory from your website. Within this feature we could also allow your customers to read reviews and possibly write their own as well. Our goal would be to enhance your website as an online resource for your customers. We want to help you convert online shoppers in your area to walk-in customers.
